Our Priorities for Swain County

Good county government isn’t just about fixing today’s problems. It’s about looking over the next hill—taking care of what we’ve been given and making wise decisions so our children and grandchildren have the same, or even better, opportunities than we enjoy today. We can grow without losing the values, traditions, and mountain way of life that make Swain County home.

I believe county leaders should be open, honest, and careful with every tax dollar. Every decision should serve the people and leave our community a little stronger than we found it. I’ll listen before I speak, treat people with respect, and work with others to make thoughtful decisions that put Swain County first.

Responsible Government

Good government begins with trust.

County government should operate in the open, be accountable, and responsive to the people it serves. Citizens deserve clear communication, thoughtful decision-making, and opportunities to participate in the decisions that affect their lives.

I’ll foster trust by:

  • Promoting transparency and accountability.

  • Encouraging meaningful public involvement.

  • Making decisions based on facts, not politics.

Citizens expect their county government to manage their tax dollars wisely. Fiscal responsibility means planning for the future, maintaining essential services, and making investments that provide lasting value.

My experience includes:

  • Protecting taxpayer dollars through careful oversight.

  • Planning and building cost-effective infrastructure and services.

Creating opportunities close to home.

A strong local economy provides good jobs, supports local businesses, and gives our children and grandchildren the opportunity to build successful lives without leaving the community they love.

My economic vision includes:

  • Support local businesses and tourism.

  • Diversify our economy by attracting clean industry and entrepreneurs.

  • Strengthen agri-tourism and the local food movement.

  • Grow our outdoor recreation economy by promoting hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and paddling.

Affordable Housing

Swain County should be a place families can afford.

Housing affordability affects young families, seniors, teachers, first responders, and the local workforce. We need thoughtful solutions that increase housing opportunities while protecting the character of our communities.

I’ll advocate for:

  • Expanding workforce housing opportunities.

  • Seeking grants and partnerships whenever possible.
